04 Dec Misguided Ambition
Being ambitious is nothing wrong. That is, if we are ambitious for the gospel, to glorify God and to save souls. However, ambition has gone wrong if we only want to seek personal glory. What is our ultimate motive for coming to God? Is it truly to worship Him as who He is – the only true and praiseworthy God? Or simply to make use of Him to gratify our selfish pride and desires? In God’s eyes, the greatest person is the humble one who can serve others; one who is selfless instead of selfish. Though selfishness is part of our sinful nature, the more we serve God and others, the more we can kill selfishness bit by bit. Since Jesus demonstrated His selfless love in giving His life as a ransom for many unworthy sinners, may His sacrificial love also empower us to be like Him.
